What is Pre Shampoo or Pre-Poo?
Like cowash, pre-poo is also a relatively new product in the world of hair care. It is a product that is used before shampooing to detangle curls, hydrate them and prepare them for cleaning. The pre-poo is especially important if you have curls that tend to tangle easily.
What about Cowash or Conditioner-Washing or No Poo?
Cowash is a recent innovation in the Curly Girl movement. These are gentle cleansers that clean your hair without stripping it of moisture like traditional shampoos. If you wash your hair often, you can use cowash during the week and complete the cleansing with a shampoo at the end of the week.
Cowash was once called “conditioner washing,” because people with curls used conditioner to wash their hair. Now there are cowashes that work like a shampoo and conditioner together, but they are much gentler products for curls. However, we recommend not abandoning shampoos for cowash or No Poo, but using them in turn, as it is important to keep your scalp clean and healthy.
Shampoos for Curly Hair
Sulphate-free shampoos are much gentler on your curls, they don't strip them of moisture leaving them clean and hydrated, unlike clarifying shampoos, which are much more aggressive. Traditional shampoos contain SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) and other sulfates, which remove oil and dirt from the hair and create a lather. Shampoos with sulfates leave hair clean but tend to make it drier and brittle. In contrast, sulfate-free shampoos contain gentler, less harsh ingredients, like cocobetaine, which are great for curls. If you use a lot of products on your hair or your hair gets weighed down easily, you have dandruff you can use a clarifying shampoo once a week to cleanse your curls.
What are Clarifying Shampoos?
Clarifying shampoos are deep cleansers created to remove product buildup. They usually use sulfates and surfactants to rid your hair of styling products, dust , dirt, chlorine, etc. It is not advisable to use clarifying shampoos in your daily hair care routine, as they may strip your curls, leaving them dry and sometimes even tangled.
What are the Conditioners or Conditioners for Curly Hair?
Hair conditioners or conditioners are used to soften hair, reduce frizz and increase manageability. After your hair has been cleansed with a shampoo, it tends to become frizzy and dry due to the cleansing ingredients in the shampoo. Hair conditioners are formulated to moisturize, strengthen and repair and need to be rinsed out of the hair, unlike leave-in conditioners. You can only skip your hair conditioner on ONE occasion! If you will use a hair mask, which is essentially a more penetrating form of conditioners.
What are Leave In Conditioners?
Leave-in conditioner : A leave-in conditioner is a curly girl's best friend, it's a great product to have especially if you need to rehydrate your curls during the week or between washes. It comes in different forms such as creams and sprays, or even foams, they are not the same as your leave-in conditioner, so you should not replace your leave-in conditioner with a leave-in conditioner. Your leave-in conditioner does not need to be rinsed out of your hair!
The best way to use leave-in conditioner?
You can use it on damp or dry hair, some leave-in conditioners are richer and full of natural oils, so you may want to dampen your hair a little before adding them. How should I use my leave-in conditioner? Massage the leave-in conditioner from roots to ends, focusing on the ends that are older and tend to be a little dry. Now is the best time to detangle, so grab your wide tooth comb or your Denman d38 brush or wide tooth comb.
